'We eventually cycled 300+ miles , 5000 metres of climbing and around 10 hours a day on the bike ! If there is one word to describe the event I would use the word “ relentless”. Nothing really prepared me for the pace both on and off the road. It was like being on a proper tour , with ride captains setting the pace ( very fast! ) motorbike out riders, mechanics , lead cars and road closures and the best bit of all the Champs Elysees closed so the whole peloton ( 400+ ) could cycle to the finish….a memory that will stay with me forever!
I actually enjoyed the event and whilst it was tough I always felt I could get it done and of course I had my ICAP team mates with me in my group as well as some new friends I have met at the training rides, one of which was a chap called Alan who did the whole route in his hand bike …. I was never going to complain to him and to ride with him was a truly humbling experience.
